Reaction Plumbing & Heating was established in 2012 by Matthew McGonagle, and today it is a team of 4 working out of Peterborough. We are small on purpose. It means the person who quotes your job is the person who stands behind it, and you are not handed off to a call centre or a rotating cast of subcontractors.

Every engineer on the team is City & Guilds / NVQ qualified, the business is Gas Safe registered under 540834, and we hold the G3 qualification required to work legally on unvented hot water cylinders. We carry £5m public liability and £10m employers' liability insurance.

Most of what we do is the everyday backbone of a warm, working home: replacing tired boilers, servicing the ones that still have years in them, chasing down leaks and pressure drops, fitting radiators, swapping out water tanks and cylinders, power flushing systems that have silted up, and issuing landlord gas safety certificates for local property owners. Bathrooms are the other half of the business, and there we take the entire job — strip-out, plumbing, tiling and all the associated work — so nobody has to project-manage three separate trades around their family.

The way we price is deliberately dull, and that is the point. Boilers and larger installations are quoted as a fixed price, either over the phone or after a look at the property. Repairs and call-outs can be charged at an hourly rate. Whichever applies, it is explained and agreed with you before a spanner comes out of the van, so the invoice at the end holds no surprises. We take card and bank transfer, and on bigger jobs a deposit may be required — again, agreed in advance.

We accept card and bank transfer. Deposits may be required on bigger jobs such as boiler installations and bathrooms; the amount depends on the job and is always agreed with you in advance. We do not currently offer finance.
